Look closely at the 24-year-old celebuspawn and you may notice something distinctly different about her once prominent nose.

Alexa, an aspiring singer and the only daughter of iconic supermodel Christie Brinkley and musician Billy Joel, underwent rhinoplasty — that’s Hollwood speak for “a nose job” — earlier this month, and the brunette says she never felt better after seeing the finished product, crafted by NYC-based plastic surgeon Dr. Norman M. Rowe.

“I was thinking about getting this for years,” says Alexa, whose looks have made her the target of ridicule on the blogosphere for years. “I was self-conscious of pictures taken from the side. To some people that’s vain, but at the end of the day, we all want to feel pretty,” she adds. “Would I do anything else to my body? No. It’s not ten procedures like Heidi Montag. For me, that’s a little extreme, but to each her own.”

Alexa notes that she is in good health since being hospitalized following an alleged overdose last December.

The singer-songwriter daughter of musician Billy Joel and model icon Christie Brinkley, 23, was hospitalized in November after reportedly overdosing on homeopathic pills in her Manhattan apartment. In a message on her MySpace blog Saturday, the once suicidal beauty thanked her fans for standing by her and has vowed to help others battling “heartbreak-related depression.”

“I have many exciting new developments for the New Year. Most importantly, to help young girls with something I feel I know a GREAT deal about: Heartbreak-Related Depression,” Alexa tenderly wrote.

The brunette crooner is even heading back to school after dropping out of New York University as a sophomore more than four years ago.

“Although it does not get much attention in our society, it is a very serious and painful condition that often gets ‘swept under the carpet.’ I hope to bring this topic more to light… I’m even going back to school for Psychology in hopes to learn more about this and many other afflictions that many of us have had to face,” Alexa continued. “I just wanted to thank you all for the incredible outpouring of love and support. It’s certainly been a whirlwind of a month, but reading all of your encouraging posts has never failed to cheer me up!!!”

Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley are speaking out on their daughter’s weekend suicide attempt in a strong rebuttal statement issued Wednesday.

Alexa Ray Joel, 23, spent several hours at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York last Saturday after reportedly consuming pills. Characterized by some reports as “a cry for help,” the apparent suicide attempt allegedly followed a breakup and several months of depression for the talented musician. The former couple attacked the credibility of a New York Post story alleging that a “dysfunctional family getaway” with Christie preceded Alexa Ray’s hospitalization.

“Every parent can imagine the pain and anguish we face as parents of a daughter who is working to recover from the dangerous actions she took while suffering a devastating heartbreak,” they began. “As much as we hate dignifying tabloid stories with a response, we feel we must set the record straight to protect our family.”

“The story that ran in the New York Post on December 8th, and has been subsequently spread across the Internet, is filled with vicious lies and attempts to smear our character and that of our beloved daughter,” Billy and Christie continued. “We ask the public and legitimate media outlets to please ‘consider the source’ and to not further exacerbate our daughter’s situation by repeating and legitimizing these false reports…”

Alexa Ray Joel is being looked after by her famous father, musician Billy Joel, following an alleged overdose and hospitalization over the weekend, The New York Post has learned.

On Monday morning, police sources revealed that Alexa Ray’s hospitalization happened after she reportedly took several anti-inflammatory pills — characterized as herbal or homeopathic antihistamines — at approximately 12PM on Saturday.

The 23-year-old singer-songwriter — the only daughter of exes Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley — was rushed from her apartment in the West Village to Manhattan’s St. Vincent’s Hospital after she alerted authorities that she was struggling with depression and had just downed eight pills.

Her friends and family say she was upset over her breakup with fellow musician and on-again, off-again boyfriend Jimmy Riot.

At approximately 12:21PM, a frantic 911 call came from Alexa’s roommate at 19 Bethune St. in the West Village. The young woman told EMTs that Alexa has been depressed after recently breaking up with a boyfriend and may have taken too many pills.

In an August posting on her MySpace page, Alexa listed her mood as “forgotten” and complained about her love life….or lack thereof. Earlier this year, there were even reports that Alexa Ray’s mom, Christie, was hoping to set the beautiful brunette up on a date with lothario John Mayer — which could drive anyone over the edge.

“I don’t like dating!!! Wish I could be in a relationship again without having to date,” she wrote. “I HATE going out!! I’m a homebody and a workaholic… I don’t like going out and drinking to meet men!!! I always have to drag myself out the door to get up the motivation to go out, and when I do go out, I don’t meet anybody!!!” she continued. “I live in the greatest city in the world and I can’t seem to meet an interesting guy who also happens to be NICE.”

Alexa Ray is the only daughter of Joel and Brinkley, whose nine-year marriage ended in divorce in 1994. After dropping out of New York University, she launched a singing career. The prolific pianist and songwriter is reportedly lucid and expected to recover.

“She is stable,” Claire Mercuri, her publicist, told NBC New York. “Her doctors are assessing her needs. And that’s all we can say at this moment.”

Alexa is scheduled to participate in a tree-lighting ceremony at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday.
