Alicia Keys Archives

Marriage and baby aren’t the only big changes on the horizon for soul star Alicia Keys: The alleged adulteress has “amicably” split from her longtime manager Jeff Robinson, opting to handle her own businessmatters. In a recent statement, Keys says that the split is “mutually agreed upon and amicable.”

The “Un-Thinkable (I’m Ready)” hitmaker plans to hand the reigns over to her own business company, AK Worldwide, ending a 10-year relationship with Robinson that began at the onset of her career. Keys, now 29, has counted her former manager as a personal friend since she was just 14 and will continue to consult Robinson on her future albums. After all, he did help produce her first four.

The expectant songbird will now personally handle more important decisions on touring, music licensing, and film and TV deals.

A statement released to Billboard.com Friday read: “This decision will allow Alicia more control over all aspects of her career from singing and songwriting, to leading many business ventures and social causes. (The decision was) mutually agreed upon and amicable.”

Alicia is expecting her first child with producer fiance Swizz Beatz this fall, prompting some music insiders to believe that the lanky former DJ may be the real culprit behind the dissolution of Keys’ business relationship with Robinson:

“Over the past few weeks, Its been pretty tense in house. Swizz Beatz has been there and has been taking a pretty active role of being a manager. He has been pitching her to people and he’s becoming very vocal in the direction of her career.”

Singing stars Rihanna and Alicia Keys are calling on fans to register as bone marrow donors after being moved by a young Broadway star’s battle against cancer.

Shannon Tavarez, the 11-year-old actress who hit the Great White Way playing young Nala in the Tony Award-winning production The Lion King, was diagnosed with acute leukaemia in April and is in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant to survive.

On Tuesday, representatives for the show announced that an event is being organized July 23 at Manhattan’s Minskoff Theatre so people can register with DKMS, which describes itself as the largest bone marrow donor center in the world with more than 2 million registered donors. Another bone marrow drive is set for July 18 at St. Malachy’s — The Actors’ Chapel, Encore Senior Center in Manhattan.

“At just 11-years-old, Shannon Tavarez already had a promising Broadway career performing four shows a week as Young Nala in ‘Disney’s The Lion King.’ Shannon juggled a full day of school before rushing to the Minskoff Theatre — she was living her dream,” read a release from King producers on Wednesday. “Now, just two months later, Shannon’s dream is simply to grow up and return to her normal life. In April, Shannon was diagnosed with acute leukemia. The talented young star was performing on stage when the symptoms first hit. Her lower back and legs suddenly started hurting making it difficult for her to perform or even walk.”

Shannon’s emotional cancer fight has struck a chord with two of the world’s best singers, A. Keys and RiRi. Last week, Alicia paid a visit to Shannon at New York’s Schneider Children’s Hospital to help lift the girl’s spirits. Keys — who will have a baby of her own soon — admits she has been touched by the child star’s story and is urging fans to sign up as potential donors, so the child and others like her can “grow up to live their dreams.” “For her, the sky is the limit, but now she’s fighting for her life,” said Keys. Rihanna has also asked her fans to help the cause before it’s too late.

“Tavarez should be performing on Broadway, but is confined to her bed, fighting for her life. She needs to find a bone marrow donor to survive. I urge all my fans to register (as donors). It’s the most beautiful thing someone could do, to give the gift of life,” the “Shut Up and Drive” hitmaker remarked in a statement Friday.

Tavarez is currently receiving daily chemotherapy treatment at the Long Island medical center as she awaits a bone marrow transplant. The young actress is well aware that a bone marrow transplant from a stranger may be her only chance at survival.

“When I found out, it hit me really hard, like someone was throwing a ball at me. It was shocking and I thought, why me?”

Alicia Keys Falls [VIDEO]

Alicia Keys has “Fallin’” (and somewhere in cyberspace, Mashonda just had an orgasm!)

The pregnant crooner narrowly escaped injury after taking a onstage tumble during a live set over the weekend.

Keys – – who is 5 months pregnant with her first child — tripped and fell on her back in the middle of a performance of “Love Is Blind” during the 2010 Essence Music Festival in New Orleans on Saturday night.

The accused homewrecker (Shh — You didn’t hear that from us!) managed to quickly recover and got back on her feet to continue her performance. According to reports, Alicia was thoroughly examined by festival physicians immediately following her show and given the all-clear.

The fall heard across the web came only days after Alicia raised eyebrows by doing her best rendition of a “Sex Kitten” by climbing her with-child self atop her piano during a tribute to pop icon Prince at last month’s BET Awards.

The “Superwoman” hitmaker and fiancé Swizz Beatz, 31, will welcome their bundle of joy this fall.

Got a cool $4 million lounging around?

Baby makes three for songbird Alicia Keys and her beau, hip-hop superproducer Swizz Beatz. And it looks like the accused homewrecker and the lanky former DJ will be welcoming their new bundle of joy in a new pad; Alicia’s selling her Long Island mansion for nearly $4 million.

The seven-bedroom house in Syosset, on the North Shore of Long Island, is up grabs, with an asking price of $3.85 million. The two-story, 9,000 metropolis was built in 1980, the same year Alicia was born. The “Diary” singer has lived in the pad since purchasing the property in 2004.

“You don’t feel lost in the house,” New York real estate magnate Shaun Osher told The NY Times Friday. “It’s tastefully done within the scale of the property. That makes it feel luxurious and grand, but not ostentatious or over the top.”

Alicia Keys Pregnant — And Engaged!

A Shotgun Wedding: How charming! This should last roughly 18 months….

Alicia Keys — Grammy-winning songbird and alleged homewrecker — is expecting her first child with fiance Swizz Beats, a newly-divorced anteater DJ and producer who reportedly began dating the “Un-Thinkable” star while his relationship with his now ex-wife, R&B singer Mashonda, was still ongoing.

“Un-Thinkable” indeed! Got yourself a winner there, honey. If they’ll do it with you, they’ll do it to you.

Mashonda claims Swizz admitted that he was having an affair with Alicia back in 2008, after she stumbled across credit card statements and other documentation from their trysts in various hotels across the country.

The couple went public with their romance at the Gotham Magazine Gala in March, much to the chagrin of Swizz’s ex.

Although reps for the pair have refused to comment, a friend of the “very happy” lovebirds has divulged that Swizz and Alicia will be married in a private ceremony later this year, Entertainment Tonight reports.

In addition to Alicia, Swizz (whose real name is Kasseem Dean), 31, has produced music for Jay-Z, T.I., Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, and Gwen Stefani. He has one son with Mashonda — Kasseem Jr., 3 — and an older child from a prior romance. There are also reports that the Abe Lincoln doppleganger has two other children, one who lives in Russia, conceived with former groupies — but you didn’t hear that from me.

At least one person won’t be breaking out any bubbly for the expectant parents. You guessed it; Mashonda. The bitter songbird is dragging the soon-to-be Mr. Keys back into court for later this month for failing to fork over more than $300,000 in maintenance payments.

Whatever happened to all those rumors accusing Alicia of being a lesbian?

Fun Fact : “Rapture” was one of the first pop hits heavily-influenced by early hip-hop production when it hit the airwaves almost 30 years ago. Aided by a backing tracking that features the instrumental Sex theme song, Alicia — a multiplatinum-selling Grammy winner — commands our eardrums as she makes the track her own. Die-hard SATC fans will likely find themselves smiling and nodding their heads to the beat as they envision Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Sam strutting down Fifth Avenue to the vocal stylings of A. Keys.

California may not the “concrete jungle where dreams are made of” — unless of course we’re talking about Los Angeles — but Katy Perry still thinks her hometown deserves a new anthem.

Just like “Empire State of Mind” — the Grammy-winning hit native New Yorkers Jay-Z and Alicia Keys recorded for their beloved Big Apple last year.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, Katy reveals that she has put down tracks on a single entitled “Californian Girl” — a response to “Empire State of Mind.”

“It’s so great that ‘Empire State of Mind’ is huge and that everyone has the New York song, but what the f**k? What about LA? What about California? It’s been a minute since we had a California song and especially from a girl’s perspective. We took the references of Prince, which is always a great reference, and some of the ’90s, almost house music references.”

Katy’s third album is expected later this year.

On next week’s American Idol, Grammy-winning songbird/accused mistress Alicia Keys will be in the house to train this year’s finalists in the fine art of hubby-humping and homewrecking.

I kid, I kid…..

Next Tuesday night, the remaining eight Idols will perform inspirational songs under the mentorship of A. Keys.

How would you like to be a blogging rockstar for a music icon? “Unthinkable” songbird Alicia Keys appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America Tuesday where she announced that she is teaming up with Monster.com and launching an online search for a talented blogger to maintain her forthcoming website IAmASuperwoman.com, which Alicia describes as a “fun, inspiring online neighborhood for super women to check in with what other super women are thinking, doing, feeling, working on, eating, buying, wearing and laughing about, and to prompt discussions on things the modern super woman cares about.”

“With IAAS.com, I’ll be displaying my ‘voice’ in a different way and need just the right person to help me express a point of view that I don’t think exists yet in the blog world,” the multiplatinum-selling singer said in a statement.

Monster says: “We help match great people with great jobs every day and Alicia has given us the opportunity to help a talented blogger get the coolest job in social media. Most employers are swamped with resumes so imagine Alicia’s challenge with this job. Fortunately our precision search technology will help match the best candidates from the thousands that will apply.”

Finalists will be flown to New York City for an interview with Ms. Keys herself in May, the Top 3 candidates will then be flown to the UK to cover Alicia’s May 27 Black Ball, which benefits her Keep A Child Alive charity. The blogging star who pens the most interesting account of the event wins!

Grammy Award-winning songbirds Beyonce Knowles and Alicia Keys spent Tuesday filming a music video in a Rio de Janeiro slum. The ladies have descended on the shantytown of Morro da Conceicao to shoot a video for Keys’ “Put It In a Love Song,” the latest single from the album The Element of Freedom.

“Song” will reportedly see Beyonce and Alicia dressed in Carnival-inspired costumes — including Swarovski headwear and feature scenes from the Sambadrome Carnival Parade.

“It’s nice that we just celebrate each others careers, that’s what the song is about, coming together to empower each other,” Alicia told Brazilian newspaper O Dia of the track and Beyonce. “This song was meant for us at this time. We’ve become really good friends.”

The video — produced by Alicia’s married boyfriend Swizz Beatz — is expected to wrap shooting this week for a debut later this month.
